Day #78: Rest Day

I had made a mistake in my planning of today's ride... I had thought there were no hotels in between, so I had signed up for a 140 mile ride... but after yesterday's long ride, I knew I needed a break. Also I had a third inner tube pop, so I needed to go to a bike store. In the end I decided to cheat and take a taxi from Casper to Riverton. That way, I take a break today and save energy for the next three long days that will take me to Yellowstone National Park.
The folks at Mountain Sports took great care of repairing my tire, and Biker Bob (on the right, above) drove to his house to pick up a phone charging brick that he just gave to me, as well as a sticker that said: "I've hugged Biker Bob" :-)
Kelsey, picked me up after my McDonald's lunch and drove me the two hours to Riverton. We talked about her kids and marriage, and let me talk to her about the fusion cycle within stars and how Hadley cells govern our weather... she was probably happy to drop me off :-)

Tomorrow's ride is 87 miles, so I'm going to try to start around 5am, which will get me into Dubois around 4pm...
Did your legs try to stage a coup after the revelation that 4-wheel travel is possible? :) I love that Biker Bob went and had those stickers made! Glad you did get a day to rest
Sounds like quite the adventure, Chris—flat tires, astrophysics lectures, and all! Alex and I love following along—cheers to Biker Bob, helpful strangers, and a well-earned break before Yellowstone. You’ve definitely earned that “I’ve hugged Biker Bob” sticker! 🚴♂ (SMILE!)
Very smart choice. It’s good there are more efficient tools you can take advantage once a while . Flexibility is critical to get to the destination. Good luck on the long ride days!
