Today's ride started in the working class section of Stockton, and ended in the high-tech offices of Livermore. In the morning the air was cool and I made very good time, but the ride ended in a long climb over some grassy hills and riding into a stiff headwind. So, the day had a bit of everything...

The first 36 miles were relatively flat and I rode near canals and waterways that connected to San Francisco Bay... but the last 12 miles were quite hilly and the headwind was significant...

Videos:

Stats: 48 miles, started at 7:30am, ended at 2pm, 6 hours of actual riding:

Must feel good that you are on bike instead of in a truck when see the gas prices at gas stations? :-) By the way, the hungtingly beautiful scenes in the videos, the yellow grasses and the wild sunflowers are very much Van Gogh-ish. Thanks to your artist genes for capturing the stunning beauty!

Yes, we feel the same! Alex and I will miss it too. Reading Chris’s blog has become part of our daily rhythm, and it’s hard to believe the journey is almost at the finish. It really has been such a special ride - though we fully support a sequel if Chris ever decides to bike across another continent! 😄 No pressure, of course - we’re just so proud of him and grateful he’s shared the journey with all of us. 😊

Omg... A hint of ocean air, like a dove returning to a ship signaling land! (Except, I suppose, in reverse, since land is what you've been traveling across, not sea). That's so true, I guess that's the other side of nostalgia - everything feeling hopeful and so close. I can't believe you're almost there! Between last summer and this summer I've gotten so accustomed to entries being from "the middle"... it's kind of crazy now they're almost at the end!

Chris, you’re so close now - already in Livermore! What a day! Starting in Stockton and ending with big hills and strong wind. Looks like California wants to give you a proper challenge at the end! We could really hear that wind in your videos - no surprise with all those turbines around.

Alex and I checked Google Maps - it looks like only 3 hours and 46 minutes (about 44 miles) by bike from Livermore to San Francisco via Bancroft Ave. Not sure if you’ll be hopping on a ferry at some point? Either way, we’re so excited—you’re almost there, and we’re cheering you on every step of the way! 🚴🚴🚴
