Almost a year after I had to suspend my cross-country ride, I’m getting back on the road… I had two operations (kidney stone and prostate), so hopefully I’m in better shape on the health front… last year I averaged 45 miles a day and rode a total of 2,600 miles… hotels are spaced farther apart in the Western states, so, this time I’ll have to average 60 miles per day, including 4 rides over 100 miles, for a total of 1,700… and obviously more up and down going over the Rockies. I’ve packed lighter this time and I have a fierce desire to complete the ride… we’ll see how long that lasts :-). I look forward to writing my daily entries and reading your comments… love you all :-)

While the Eastern half of the US is suffering from 100 degree Fahrenheit temperatures and high humidity, South Dakota is relatively cool and dry... at least for the next few days :-)
Chris, what an incredible example of perseverance and heart. Alex and I have been following along and are so inspired by your journey. Here’s to safe travels, good health, and many beautiful moments along the way.👍
Sometimes, people woke up in the middle of the nights, a good dream was interrupted, they went back to sleep right away, wished to finish the dream, not always happening :-). How lucky you are to have chance to pickup the dream at the point you left. Good luck biking all the way to the west, Chris!
Woo hoo... Those clouds are taking you to another world! With 1700 miles left, I guess that makes this chapter of the journey The Return of the King!
