In paragraph 18 of The Philosophical Investigations, Wittgenstein says:
"Our language can be seen as an ancient city: a maze of little streets and squares, of old and new houses, and of houses with additions from various periods; and this surrounded by a multitude of new boroughs with straight regular streets and uniform houses."
He's using the street plan as a metaphor for human language, but each day I find I ride through the physical version of his metaphor: from farms and fields to suburban subdivisions to the big box stores, gleaming hi-tech office parks and strip malls that ring US cities, and then through the winding streets of old urban centers.
When I dropped out of college, and before I went back to study education, I spent a fair amount of time exploring industrial sites around Boston on my bike. I feel like this trip has connected me with those days of discovering out-of-the-way spots...
I went a little crazy taking movies today, so lots of action shots...
Snapshot: 34 miles, starting at 8:30am and ending at 1pm, with 3 hours of actual riding:

Initially I thought you added music to video #7 only to be pleasantly surprised by the gentleman playing his guitar. Love it!
I played the rushing sound of the water from the video as I read the blog... Very pretty. I didn't know about that time period of you doing all that exploring of industrial places around Boston... how interesting it must be to be a visitor observing them -Nof

Biking cross country you have the great opportunities to see the different things from the ones we used to, both nature and civilization. Beautiful small towns, beautiful wild flowers which are different here and there. Great action shots. Hope you found the restaurant (and sushi) you were looking for.
