Today we took a ferry from Canada back to the US. The day had multiple phases, and we contended with a little bit of everything: rain and then intense sun and strong winds. I have a bit of a runny nose and sore throat, so the day was more tiring than the mileage would suggest.
We left our wonderful warmshowers.org hosts, Amanda and Mike at 7am...

And then had a lovely first breakfast...
The ride from Wallaceburg to the Algonac ferry passed by the Tecumseh memorial. Tecumseh was a Shawnee chief and warrior who fought alongside the British against the Americans and died in the War of 1812:
To answer Fengmei's question in the comments: we had to ride down to Algonac because bikes were not allowed to cross the bridge at Sarnia. The ferry crossing was wonderful:
Just as we passed through the border checkpoint in Algonac, Michigan it started to rain...
Mostly I prefer the cooling rain to the beating sun, but around 11am we found a great diner to wait out the storm and have breakfast #2... Mark had battered perch. The ladies working at the diner actually opened it 10 minutes early, because they took pity on us in the rain...
Then we got into the windy, busy traffic phase of the day:
Then to the suburban neighborhood phase:
Then the beautiful Clinton River bike trail phase, which really saved us because it was shaded from the sun and wind and was cool, which is just what we needed for the last 5 miles of a long day...
The snapshot: 48 miles, starting at 7:30am and finishing at 4:30pm, with 6.25 hours of actual riding:

A day of biking life: it’s rain, it’s sun, it’s water, it’s tree shading road, it’s statue, it’s old day story, it’s breakfast after another, beyond all of these, it’s pure happiness from housing and being housed along the long long biking road. Thank you for explaining north-to-south swaying :-)
How cool about the warmshowers place! I like the look of that diner decor... almost as much as I like the look of those home fries :D Welcome back to the states! -Nof
