Today was one of the prettiest rides on the Erie canal. It was wide and a deep blue color and for long stretches flowers grew along the banks. The vertical draw bridges in several of the towns we went through were in perfect condition and beautifully painted. We crossed paths with lots of other people running or biking along the canal and had nice conversations with one group after another... people gave us recommendations for where to get coffee and a BLT and ice cream... just a great day!
It began with sunrise from the Holiday Inn Express in Rochester and more Swiss birchermeusli mixed in the hotel's ice bucket:
You can get a sense of the picturesque path along the canal:
And more cool sights:
We passed the only culvert on the Erie canal, where a road passes through a tunnel under the canal... you can see the road going off into the distance behind Mark:

And some action shots:
Finally the snapshot: 48 miles, starting at 6:30am and ending at 2pm, with 6 hours of actual biking:

Beautiful! Have a good weekend!
I remember my friends at RIT had to drive for ages to get there... It just dawned on me how crazy it is that you've now biked there. Do any of the BLT / ice cream places lie ahead of you? -Nof
