The plan was for today to be quite a short ride. We ended up adding a few side adventures, so in the end it was 42 miles, but still manageable. It turns out that Newark, NY was once the rose capital of America, and the house we stayed in was the mansion of the rose magnate:
We had a great avocado toast breakfast and hit the road around 8:20am. The usual lovely scenes along the canal...
The first side quest was to "The Sacred Grove" where Joseph Smith reported having several visions that led him to found the Mormon religion. It turns out upstate New York has been the birthplace of several faiths...

The second pilgrimage site was to Wegmans, where I got another great order of supermarket sushi, and ingredients to make a salad Nicoise for dinner, which I mixed in the ice bucket in the hotel room... and Mark found a lovely European restaurant near the hotel:
The snapshot: 42 miles, starting at 8:20am and finishing at 5pm, with 6 hours of actual riding:

We went to James Kelleher rose garden last weekend. The most beautiful flowers on the earth. Hopefully someday someone will rebuild “the rose capital”. When you are having better life out there, the “same old” world is still running: euro 2024 started yesterday 🚴⚽️😄
The house of the rose magnate sounds like a location in some regency-era book I'd want to read. I think the most important religion to come out of upstate New York is the sect of the cherry berry cheesecake :) -Nof
