Day #102: Pioneer to Valley Springs (35 miles)

Yesterday's 50 miles of downhill continued today with another 15 miles of coasting. After that it was up and down some pretty steep hills and then into the rolling farmland. Since the ride was short and the landscape so beautiful, I glided through in a happy haze, remembering times I'd ridden as a child in Germany and England and Switzerland. When I'm not worried about making my destination on time, this is the happy, nostalgic state I drift into.
Panoramas...
One more video:
Valley Springs has a good selection of shops and restaurants, including a laundromat and a nice fast Italian bistro. While I waited for my cloths to dry, I had a nice talk with a dad who was doing his family's laundry. He was a labor organizer, and I asked him what the politics were like... he said, "we've got MAGA out here." Then we talked a little bit about school choices for his son, who's just 2 years old, so they've got some time to figure schools out.
A nice plate of spaghetti and meatballs :-)

Stats: 35 miles, started at 6:30am, ended at 11am, 4 hours of actual riding:

In next 50 years, the nostalgia will be about something like “biking pass Wyoming…”, “biking pass Nevada…” :-)
Heehee! For some reason I really got a kick out of the laundry video. Good-looking bread next to that spaghetti and meatballs, too. I'm really glad you've been riding in a dream, and with enough tranquility to think about the places in Europe...
Oops - we think we accidentally missed this one, Chris! So glad we went back to read it. What a lovely, nostalgic day - gliding through beautiful farmland and thinking back to childhood rides in Germany, England, and Switzerland sounds like such a gift. And that spaghetti and meatballs looked like the perfect ending! Alex and I are loving every part of your journey - even the ones we catch a little late. 😊 🚴
